“I’m honored to be considered but you seem of high enough station to have whoever you like. I’m well past my prime and just trying to get by… You wouldn’t want to waste it on decrepit old me.”

He smiled politely but there was a bit of sadness in his raspy voice. A longing for a youth long gone. But Bartlomiej had already made up his mind and he was not one to be rejected easily.  

Without saying a word, Bartlomiej knelt down on one knee, grabbed the man-whore’s hand - god, it was so much smaller than his own - and pressed a gold coin into his palm, closing the man's pale fingers around it. He held onto him, warming cold skin between his hands.
